Rosie, the sassiest kid on her block of Brooklyn's Avenue P, entertains herself and her friends by acting out show-business fantasies. Central among her daydreams involves her directing and starring in an Oscar-winning movie of her life.
The musical, Really Rosie, had many different forms before it made its way to the stage. The characters were first introduced by Maurice Sendak in his 1960 book, The Sign On Rosie's Door, and later they were seen in Nutshell Library, written in 1962.
On 19 February, 1975, CBS Television aired an animated special with original music by Carole King. Maurice Sendak's Really Rosie Starring the Nutshell Kids was highly acclaimed television special which would also be printed in book form later that year.
During the 1980s, the story was expanded, new songs were added and Really Rosie appeared in New York before enthusiastic crowds. New York Magazine raved that "...there is such vitality...such exploration of the waist-high jungle of childhood...You will regret not being able to wrap up a large chunk of the proceedings and take them home with you."
The songs have been newly recorded and remastered. (2015) The performance tracks have been further enhanced by deleting the 1000hz frequency. This frequency is where most humans talk and sing - therefore the music sits in better and the vocals are more transparent = much better sound/theatre experience.
